Flower Spruce-Ups Ideas for Your Home
United Country Midwest Lifestyle Properties is eager to assist you in making the
sale of your home smooth and uncomplicated. We are experts in real estate markets
and want your home to have the best appeal possible. Some homes are picture-
perfect, while others need a few touches.
Not everyone has a green thumb, so we subscribe to the notion that simple is better.
Most folks are looking for a home that catches their eye- it’s called curb appeal.
Curb appeal draws people in and invites them to take a closer look.
Complicated, high-maintenance gardens are for a very small percentage of property
seekers. We suggest a few simple changes to your front yard area, especially at the
entrance, making a world of difference. Take a look below for help with flower and
plant options for you to choose from.
The Eye Buys
The old saying “The eye buys” is true in almost any business. Real estate
employees that adage as well. We are looking for your home to be the market stand-
out. Especially if we have a tight market. It is the little things that make all the
difference.
We highly suggest you visit a local garden center and inquire with the garden staff
about what flowers and flowering plants go well with the area you intend to plant
them.
Take a picture of the area(s) we’ve suggested you spruce up. Bring those pictures
with you, giving the garden center an accurate idea of what you’d need for that area.
They will consider the amount of sunlight or shade and the soil type.
Seasoned garden staff will suggest flowering plants and flowers appropriate for
your home setting and season. Be sure to stress you want easy-keeping flowers and
plants that are low maintenance as well.
Hardy Flowers and Plants- Nearly Kill Proof!
Everyone leads a busy life. Remembering to water, prune, or “dead-head” can be a
downfall. Below we have several flowers and plants that make maintaining them a
breeze. Easy growers!
For a simple approach, you can try sunflowers and morning glories.
Sunflowers are fast-growing, heat-tolerant, and pest resistant. Plant these in a
sunny area, receiving at least six hours of sunlight. You can buy tall-growing
sunflowers or short-growing sunflowers. If you like the tall-growing, be sure they
have protection from the wind. For short growers, ensure the tub is deep enough for
the tap root.
Morning glory flowers are a beautiful addition and love to climb. Easy to grow and
happy in light soil. Morning glories open at sunrise and will close during the heat of
the day. They come in a gorgeous variety of colors. Since they are a vining plant, be
sure and provide them with a trellis to crawl up. Chicken wire works as well.
Sweet alyssum is a wonderful hedge plant to accent a walkway. They have a
honey-type smell and come in white, pink, and purple.
Sedums are always a hit! Their fall colors are astounding and are sure to showcase
your front yard. If you’re forgetful about watering, these plants are very forgiving.
Note their varying heights and plant according to the surrounding area.
Another easy-grower- Zinnias. Starting from seed, these can grow up to four feet
tall and come in a variety of heights and colors. Zinnias provide beauty and attract
local hummingbirds. Stay away from WHITE zinnias as they attract Japanese
beetles. If your area is prone to those pesky Japanese beetles- plant another color.
Moss roses are a fun ground cover. Low maintenance and tolerating low moisture.
Zinnias enjoy well-drained and dry environments. It is a hardy plant that can
survive the winter and return in spring.
